This is the single most asked question.
The answer is somewhat involved in its fullest form. So, for those with a deficit in attention span, the answer is a werewolf.
For those of you with nothing better to do than read my ramblings, here goes:
I first encountered the term Loup Garou in Stephen King's novel "IT". In the book, Pennywise is at one point described as a Loup Garou. The book goes on to explain that Loup Garou is an old term for a werewolf or shape shifter.
When I first read "IT" I was already fascinated by mythology, fantasy, dark fiction, horror movies, and especially werewolves and vampires. I had never come across the term Loup Garou before so I decided to do some research. Back then I had difficulty finding much information in books or online.
As best I could find out, Loup Garou is of archaic Norman or Frankish French origin. The Loup part means simply wolf, (no doubt from the Latin root Lupus). Garou seems to be derived from the word garoul meaning werewolf. Thus Loup Garou seems to be a somewhat confusing term meaning literally wolf-werewolf.
I liked the name enough to adopt it as my own for all of my online activities. This led fairly naturally to it being used as the name for my very own site. And that, as they say, is that.
As I said, I adopted the name as an online identity for myself. Unfortunately other people had beaten me to it as far as the correct spelling of the name was concerned. I was therefore left with no other option than to start adjusting the spelling. I picked a spelling that I thought would be close enough to the original, but would be odd enough that it would stand out a bit. And thus was born Loupe Garrou. Of course the observant amongst you will also have noticed that Loupe is a word used to describe a magnifying lens used in the photographic industry. So I suppose I have become a magnifying lens werewolf now! The even more observant will have noted that Loupe is the feminine form in French, but that's a whole other issue!
Of course, the truly frightening thing is that I have now started seeing the words Loupe Garrou used online to actually mean Loup Garou!
Because I have a full time job, and other commitments which don't allow me as much free time as I would like. I will do what I can to update the site as often as possible, but don't expect to see any rapid developments here.
